1. OFFICIAL: Upcoming Extended Travel Back on the Books

Finally.  This morning, I received an email that school has approved my winter term project.  So, while I haven’t yet paid out the $2,500 for airfare, it is only a matter of time: I’m going to the South Pacific!!

Around Christmas Day, I’ll fly to Auckland, New Zealand to see some high school friends who have relocated there.  I’ll likely be there for 9 days — including New Years (so my mission to be out of town for NYE is successful for another year) — and then will fly to Melbourne to meet up with my parents.  About 6 days later, I fly to Sydney, where I will be living for just under 3 weeks, doing research for a governmental organization revising the country’s copyright laws.

COULD I BE MORE EXCITED?  About freedom, long-term travel, exploring — no.  About leaving 15-degree Cambridge and landing in 80-degree summer — no.  I can’t believe this all came together, but I’ll be abroad and doing something fun and meaningful in a short 46 days.

  2. Finals: A break in original content

17 days to end of 1L, 24 days to true freedom: until then, it’s likely I won’t be posting a whole lot.  Instead, I’ll be procrastinating, looking at other websites, which means I might actually reblog some things (see below).  Keeping it real, trying to stay positive, and working hard to learn, not just about my classes, but about other aspects of life.

    So soon!

  3. The Final Push

Six weeks from yesterday I move on from 1L.  Permanently.  The final push is upon us!  Outline skeletons (not yet outlines), compiling hornbooks and study aids, making and freezing food for emergency stores, the disintegration of all fashion sense.

The last time I expect to look anything close to “pretty,” or “human,” will probably be the end of next week.  ”Grubby animal” will have to do.

For now, happy Passover!  And the shots from my second-to-last visit to the city before semi-permanence….

  4. Counting Days

And minutes, and hours.  Nine more days before life changes pretty dramatically, so I’m going to enjoy life as much as I can until then.  I’ve been doing a reasonably good job, too.

  5. Countdown: Two days

Well, actually, I leave DC to get closer to the airport tomorrow.  Everything feels weird.

Packing wasn’t too terrible, but I’m convinced I have overpacked (SHOCKING, I know) so I may ditch some stuff at Alyson’s house before the big JFK departure.  Mother did the equivalent of making my bed at college: helped me unwrap baby toiletries and organized and packed it all into my 70L pack.

I’m going to miss DC a lot — monument runs and being in the heart of the city and my cat and home.  Everything changes so dramatically when I return — DC won’t even be home for very long — that these feel like my final hours of stability.

Happy new year, all.  Hosted potluck was a social success (but a cleanup failure).  Last-minute outfit from the Urban Outfitters sale rack cost a whopping $15.

And then the morning after — a fantastic morning recap with five of my best friends.

All: if you want postcards, email me your addresses.  Will do my best to accommodate.
