Fifteen months gone
I began this blog under the moniker “Fifteen Months,” but soon realized that at some point in the SUPER distant future, “Fifteen Months” would no longer be accurate, and so I might as well bite the bullet early, and thus “Time Oft Stretched” was born. As it turns out, that super distant future is no longer so distant, and is, in fact, here.  It’s...

Training, week 7
Total mileage: 21 Longest run: 9 Easy: 17 Rough: 4 Positive moment: There was a hurricane, so my schedule was disrupted, and my shin splints have actually been destroying me a little (even while not running!), but 9 miles today felt really okay.  I feel like I’m over the mental hump:  like yes, Emma, you can run the full 13.1 when it comes around. Here’s to avoiding injury for...

Later, NYC.
I caught a final stress-free golden hour (okay.  Fine.  I guess it DOES exist, occasionally, in New York) before my life picks up and I have to hit the ground running (which I suppose already started).  But that’s a different story. I’ll miss aimless wandering, camera strapped to my neck with no responsibility except ensuring that dust doesn’t enter my lenses. And that...

Training, week 6
Total mileage: 18 (rest week) Longest run: 8 Easy: too few (8?) Rough: too many (10?) Positive moment: After a week that taxed my lungs hard, I was a little scared to tackle the 8-miler tonight.  As it turns out, it was the easiest, most pleasant run I’ve done in at least a week — and this was after struggling to pull 3 miles mere days ago.  I officially don’t understand my...

Counting Days
And minutes, and hours.  Nine more days before life changes pretty dramatically, so I’m going to enjoy life as much as I can until then.  I’ve been doing a reasonably good job, too. I made a friend who has a superbly nice camera, which is good, because it’s encouraging me to step out and keep shooting, and bad, because it’s encouraging me to NEED an external flash, and...

Training, week 5
Total mileage: 20 Easy miles: 14 Rough miles: 6 Positive moment: hitting 8:10 miles on an easy 3-miler along the East River.  I should just be running with faster people.  When I’m good, I’m good. …But when I’m bad, I’m so bad.  Couldn’t hit the long run on Monday, and this week has been difficult.  All that sugar this weekend really whacked me off the...

This weekend was a lot:  a lot of chocolate, a lot of dancing, a lot of friends, a lot of rain.  Here I sit in repose and disbelief, that yes, another 365 days passed, “22” isn’t accurate anymore, “I’m taking a year off” won’t be accurate pretty soon, and all things are go.  Disbelief that somehow, I was able to combine like 948579375 social circles, and...

I don't love birthdays, but this one should be...
Mainly because I’m seeing an 80s cover band.  I have no illusions that I will somehow top my LAST 80s outfit: Not pictured: two pairs of large neon earrings (hooray multiple piercings!), bright blue makeup.  Unfortunately those (wondrous) shoes have not made it to Boston — yet.   Nor do I have illusions that this is going to be the BEST DAY EVZ CUZ BURTHDAYZ R AWESUM because I...

Back in Boston
I find it so strange that I left DC for two and a half months (twice!), and returned, and felt like I’d been gone mere days.  Today, after having been gone for just two weeks, I returned to Boston and it feels like it has been forever. I guess that’s the thing about settling down.  I simply haven’t yet, so my memories and attachments stuck much less firmly.

Training, week 4
Total mileage: 22 Longest run: 7 Easy: 20 Rough: 2 Positive moment: Hitting up the Fleet Foxes Pandora station instead of my standard club pop.  It’s a different feel, and makes runs relaxing, especially in the mornings.  This morning a deer ran out in front of me on the trail, and it was like, oh, of course.

Generation Uptick
My little cousins left, so I switched generations, and I’m glad I did.  Definitely a different skill set, and different editing (instead of hiking up the color point blank, it’s exploring different tones).

Year-off Book Count: 18
TIna Fey - Bossypants: Oh god did I enjoy this a lot.  Not only is TIna Fey hysterical, but her memoir was also laced with really solid advice for women looking to succeed in any field.  This book caused me to laugh out loud, frequently, on MBTA buses, which totally isn’t an awkward thing to do. Chelsea Handler - Are You There, Vodka?  It’s Me, Chelsea: You can’t top Tina, so...

I can’t stop with these girls!  Too cute. I’m getting a new wave of artistic energy, and I’ll thank 500px for that.  I’m really impressed with the community — within hours of posting my 20 photos, I’d already gotten some great feedback from really talented individuals.  Feel free to stop by — I’m excited about this new project.

Training, week 3
Total mileage: 21 Longest run: 6 miles Easy miles: 19 Rough miles: 2 Positive moment: Realizing that speed is subject to mindset, and also very much subject to hills.  Relatively easy 6 miles today thanks to a flat trail.

Was it worth it?
I keep hearing this question floating around.  I went to a wedding this weekend, my parents rented a home to questionable people, someone ate a high-caloric dessert, and someone else has always been asking:  Well, was it worth it? I’m not entirely convinced it’s a question worth answering.  Does it matter?  It’s been done, and I’m not a committed fan of reevaluating all...
