Bruins Won to Make Me Happy
On my first weekend in Boston, it’s like someone up there was smiling down on me, thinking of ways to make me pleased with the place to which I’ve relocated. The Bruins won the Stanley Cup, and while this in and of itself wouldn’t do THAT much for me, the city decided to throw an impromptu parade the following Saturday and Boston came out in all its golden glory.

LEARNED: Bostonians are talkative.
I was walking to work this morning, stopped on a street corner beside a relatively young guy in Nantucket red shorts and a polo wearing fancy glasses. He said nonchalantly, as if continuing, not beginning, a conversation, “Your shirt just gave me the biggest flashback.”
Of course I inquired further (it seemed like the natural thing to do) and as we walked under construction...

Back in the Kitchen
I bought my first eggplant last week. I like eggplant, but it’s just not something with which I’ve voluntarily worked, other than in my Italian cooking class. I decided that today was eggplant day, today I would have time to cook something great with said eggplant for lunch. Go big or go home.

I’ve traded in the SmarTrip for a CharlieCard. It begins — the penultimate chapter of my year-off book. I’ve passed twelve months of my allotted fifteen, which is weird, but I think this is when things get exciting.

Saying Goodbye to DC
I don’t love it, to be honest — saying goodbye, that is. Not DC. I do love DC. And my departure has completely sprung up on me, taken me by surprise without any chance for mental preparation or the adequate tying of loose ends.
The natural solution has been to lounge on Dupont Circle and eat my feelings.
